EHS Alumni Association Holds Annual Meeting

ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth High School Alumni Association held its annual meeting May 21.

Approximately 210 alumni, family and friends attended.

The meeting featured the installation of three new members of the board of directors, Matthew Foster (’87) for a one-year term and David Burks (’75) and Stacey Sinford (’92), for three-year terms.

Re-elected for three-year terms were Leah Allen (’52), Joyce Johnston (’48), Michael Povich (’61) and Ernest Tracy (’54).

They join board members Lynda Hamblen (’72), Stacey Doe (’89), Lisa Gordon (’87), J. Kim Higgins (’73), Jeri Barnes (’81), Paul Firlotte (’61), Paul Davis (’61), Ashley Ehrlenbach (’02), George Ray (’50) and Corinna Domagala (’84).

Lois DeRaps (’61) was presented with a certificate of Directors Emeriti in recognition of her 11 years on the board.

Every year the Association provides scholarships to current graduates and alumni members. This year’s award winners are Sarah Ahern ($1,000), Kelsey Crowley ($1,000), Sarah Homich ($1,000), Sarah Marckoon ($1,000) and Logan Will ($1,000).

The winner of the $2,000 Rotary/Shirley & Helen Povich Scholarship (as presented by the alumni association) is Chelsea Bull.

The winner of the $2,000 Paul and Patricia Firlotte Scholarship (as presented by the alumni association) is Jessica Putnam, who attends Boston University.

The association’s top award of $3,000 went to Leif Jacobson, who attends the Cedarville University of Ohio for biology and pre-med.

Alumni members Kathleen Kelley and Kristopher Tracy were both awarded $1,000 scholarships.

The Marketing Committee has been busy working on the Web site, obtaining alumni apparel and merchandise. There are maroon and gray fleece vests, maroon golf shirts, hats, shopping totes, sling bags, bracelets, key chains, coffee mugs and more available.
